The art militia was founded in 2007 - It can be considered both an
extension of, and a rebellion against, the project
“Pink Army” led by
Jennie Hagevik Bringaker. Within this context the militia is a rogue
faction, borne by a rejection of monochrome idealism. In its struggle
to define and operate in a separate territory, the project takes it
all too seriously. It is however essential to the founding idea that
the
(para) military structure is more than mere appearance. As a social
sculpture in a limited format the militia is an attempt to transplant
the mechanics of a very particular social realm into the world of
art– juxtaposing elements generally considered mutually exclusive.
In this impossible balancing act military method becomes a tool for
making art, and the building of esprit de corps an aesthetic
goal.
